This year regular traveller with inspiresport: St Martin’s took 49 children age 13 to 15 on a once in a lifetime trip to Canada. We chatted with Mike – leader of Health and Well-being at St Martin’s, about what made the experience special for him. Here’s what he had to say:
What made him choose to fly 3,621 miles all the way to Canada? With summer being the season when students have a longer break Mike saw an opportunity to visit a destination he had heard friends talk so much about. And he didn’t leave disappointed – the famous Byward Market, Rideau Canal, and Parliament Building are only a few of the landmarks the group got to experience.
“Myself and the kids are going to chat about this for years to come”
Niagara Falls and going Whitewater rafting were highlights that Mike saw as unforgettable. “Myself and the kids are going to chat about this for years to come” he says. What exceeded his expectations though was a leisurely beach trip that caught him off-guard with its beauty.
Were the kids happy? “Some of the boys started crying on our last day there” Mike says. When he asked them what was wrong they shared they didn’t wanted to go back! It was more than a sports trip for them, it was a lifelong experience of learning to be independent and away from parents as well as making ever lasting friendships.
